Note: Answer all questions. Kindly note that answers for 10 marks questions should be approximately of 400 words. Each question is followed by evaluation scheme.

Question. 1. Explain simple reference model.

Answer: A reference model in systems, enterprise, and software engineering is an abstract framework or domain-specific ontology consisting of an interlinked set of clearly defined concepts produced by an expert or body of experts in order to encourage clear communication. A reference model can represent the component parts of any consistent idea, from business functions to system components, as long as it represents a complete set. This frame of reference can then be used to communicate ideas clearly among members of the same

Question. 2. Write short notes on Signals.

Answer: Signals are classified into the following categories:

Continuous Time and Discrete Time Signals: A signal is said to be continuous when it is defined for all instants of time.

Question. 3. What do you understand by Analog Modulation?

Answer: Analog modulation refers to the process of transferring an analog baseband (low frequency) signal, like an audio or TV signal over a higher frequency signal such as a radio frequency band.
There are two ways to modulate an RF carrier:

1. Amplitude Modulation: In analog modulation, the amplitude of the carrier signal is made to follow that of the modulating signal. Several variants of amplitude modulation are used in practice. They are Double Side Band Suppressed Carrier (DSBSC) Modulation, Single Sideband Suppressed Carrier (SSBSC) Modulation and Vestigial Sideband Amplitude Modulation (VSBAM).

PBDDS Board Implementation: For generation of AM waveforms on SpinCore PulseBlasterDDS Boards, the basic form of amplitude modulation is given by:

AM (t) = Ca*sin(wc*t)*[A+(Ma*sin(wm*t))]
For this formula:
t = time

Question. 4. What is Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS)?

Answer: The Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) is a third generation mobile cellular system for networks based on the GSM standard. Developed and maintained by the 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project), UMTS is a component of the International Telecommunications Union IMT-2000 standard set and compares with the CDMA2000 standard set for networks based on the competing cdmaOne technology. UMTS uses wideband code division multiple access (W-CDMA) radio access technology to offer greater spectral efficiency and bandwidth to mobile network operators.

Question. 5. Write short notes on Space Division Multiple Access (SDMA).

Answer: Space-division multiple access (SDMA) is a channel access method based on creating parallel spatial pipes[clarification needed] next to higher capacity pipes through spatial multiplexing and/or diversity, by which it is able to offer superior performance in radio multiple access communication systems.[clarification needed] In traditional mobile cellular network systems, the base station has no information on the position of the mobile units within the cell and radiates the signal in all directions within the cell in order to

Question. 6. What are the Properties of a MANET?

Answer: The main characteristics of MANETs are: the complete lack of centralized control, lack of association among nodes, rapid mobility of hosts, frequent dynamically varying network topology, shared broadcast radio channel, insecure operating environment, physical vulnerability and limited availability of resources, such as CPU processing capacity, memory power, battery power, and bandwidth.

Dynamic Network Topologies: The nodes in MANETs are
