1 Define Strategy. Describe the different strategy levels in an organization

Answer :  How you define your business strategy will determine the direction of your business and what it will look like in the future. By defining your business strategy clearly, you can develop your business or growth plan to achieve your business and personal goals.

Remember, you cannot be all things to all customers. You do not have to be the market leader to compete successfully, but you do need to focus on your company’s strengths to find a way to differentiate from other competitors.


2 Define Organizational Culture. Discuss the dimensions of organizational culture. Explain Charles Handy’s classification of organizational culture
Answer :  Organizational culture reflects the values, beliefs, and norms that characterize an organization as a whole.
Organizational culture is the behavior of humans who are part of an organization and the meanings that the people attach to their actions. Culture includes the organization values, visions, norms, working language, systems, symbols, beliefs and habits. It is also the pattern of such collective behaviors and assumptions that are taught to new organizational members as a way of perceiving, and even thinking and feeling. Organizational



3 Define Disciplinary procedure. Explain the various factors to be considered while analyzing a disciplinary problem

Answer : Disciplinary procedures are a set way for an employer to deal with disciplinary issues. They should include a disciplinary hearing where you’re given a chance to explain your side of the story.

There should also be a chance to appeal any disciplinary action your employer decides to take.

A fair discipline process is based on three prerequisites: rules and regulations, a system of progressivepenalties, and an appeals process.


4 What do you mean by Human Resource Information System (HRIS)? Describe the various modules of HRIS. Discuss some of the HRIS software.

Answer : The Human Resource Information System (HRIS) is a software or online solution for the data entry, data tracking, and data information needs of the Human Resources, payroll, management, and accounting functions within a business. Normally packaged as a data base, hundreds of companies sell some form of HRIS and every HRIS has different capabilities.

To put it another way, a HRIS may be viewed as a way, through software, for businesses big and small to take care of a number of activities, including those related to human resources, accounting, management, and payroll. A HRIS

6 Write a brief note on the following:

a) Trait theory
Answer : In 1936, psychologist Gordon Allport found that one English-language dictionary alone contained more than 4,000 words describing different personality traits. He categorized these traits into three levels:

·         Cardinal Traits: These are traits that dominate an individual’s whole life, often to the point that the person becomes known specifically for these traits. People with such personalities often become so known for these traits that their names are often synonymous with these qualities. Consider the origin and

·         Secondary Traits: These are the traits that are sometimes related to attitudes or preferences and often appear only in certain situations or under specific circumstances. Some examples would be getting anxious when speaking to a group or impatient while waiting in line.


b)ERG theory
Answer : Alderfer’s ERG Theory
ERG theory was developed by organizational behavior scholar Clayton Alderfer to everyone the problems with Maslow’s needs hierarchy theory. ERG theory groups human needs into three broad categories: existence, relatedness, and growth. (Notice that the theory’s name is based on the first letter of each need.) As Exhibit 5.1 illustrates, existence needs correspond to Maslow’s physiological and safety needs.
