Q. 1. Explain the 5 major responsibilities in operations decisions. Give examples. 

Answer: Operational decisions occur on a daily basis and are made considering the risk to the business. Often these decisions are administrative in nature and can be implemented quickly and tend to carry little risk. At RWE npower, employees at every level take operational decisions daily. An example might be when to re-order a particular item of stock. Another could be to determine how many operative staff will be required to complete a task.

Answer: Strategic management comprehending a proactive, rational, normative and comprehensive sequence, is composed of the following main steps, namely, determination of the mission and goals, determination of the corporate strategies after an environmental analysis, and implementation and control of these strategies. One of the significant characteristics of the strategy determination process is the notion of comprehensiveness that is a detailed study of strengths and weaknesses of the firm and the opportunities and threats within the environment and a deeper evaluation of the


Q. 3. Explain the behavioural dimensions of Job Design. 

Answer: Job design (also referred to as work design or task design) is the specification of contents, methods and relationship of jobs in order to satisfy technological and organizational requirements as well as the social and personal requirements of the job holder. Q. 4. What is work sampling? How does it proceed? Explain. 

Answer: It is a Statistical technique used for predicting the total time consumed by an activity, in processes ranging from customer service and manufacturing to telemarketing. It relies on the observations made over a period to record what is happening at that instant, and the frequency at which one or more activities are being performed. Work sampling is the statistical technique for determining the proportion of time spent by workers in various defined categories of activity (e.g. setting up a machine, assembling two parts, idle…etc.). It is as important as all other statistical techniques because it permits quick analysis, recognition, and enhancement of job responsibilities, tasks, performance competencies, and organizational work flows. Other names used for it are 'activity sampling', 'occurrence sampling', and 'ratio delay study'.
