Answer: The structure of an organization is the manner in which various sub-units are arranged and inter-related. Structure is composed of three components: complexity, formalization and centralization. Discuss each of these components. Complexity is the degree to which activities within the organization are differentiated. Such differentiations may be horizontal, vertical or spatial.

Coordination is integration of activities of specialized units towards the common objective. This involves placement of different units in the organization together or separately and deciding on patterns of relationship and communication. Coordination is achieved through hierarchy of authority. This involves important principles of organization. Unity of command is being responsible to and receiving orders from only one superior.
