Answer: All the four drivers have a diversified and pivotal role to play in the smoothfunctioning of the supply chain and in achieving the strategic fit. This is discussedin the following section:

1. Facilities: There are many critical facility related decisions that the supplychain needs to make and they play a crucial role in the supply chain aswell. Following is their role at different stages:

There are a variety of mechanisms that third parties can use for the growth ofsurplus.

1. Capacity aggregation: It is the most common reason for outsourcing production in a supply chain, whereby a third party can raise the supply chain surplus by conglomerating demand pertaining to multiple firms and gaining production economies of scale

4. An improved transport management system is required for betterment of stakeholders, cost reduction and improving service levels. Explain the benefits of transport management system in context to the aforesaid statement?

Answer: An improved transport management is a win-win situation for all stakeholders:

• For shippers, optimized transport improves logistics cost structure.

• For carrier, improved use of capacity intensifies competitiveness.

• For the receiver of shipments, i.e., the retailer, the lower prices of goods purchased helps him develop a more efficient inbound supply chain.

5 “The Impact of IT on Supply Chain Management is immense”. Briefly explain the impact of IT on Supply Chain Management?

Answer: The impact of information technology on supply chain management is immense.

IT has influenced supply chains in forming positive client relationships; developing new markets, expanding older marketing channels, coordinating and integrating commercial distribution and logistics and business process re-engineering and restoring value chain between enterprises. We will now discuss these impacts in detail.

(a)Box Jenkins Method: This method is a self analytical time series forecasting method. Its emphasis is to find a formula so that the residuals are as small as possible and exhibit no pattern. Box–Jenkins model is widely used and practiced in understanding systematic approach for verifying forecasting uncertainty. This method of forecasting is much superior to other methods because to a large extent it is useful in identifying complexities in behaviour patterns.
